Global automation supplier, ABB, won two separate orders for electrification and automation equipment at Swedish iron ore producer Northland Resources.
The equipment will help Northland Resources’ new concentrator plant’s energy efficiency. The companies signed the deals for the Kaunisvaara project in March.
The plant is 100 km north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden, near the Finnish border. When in full production, the plant will produce five million tons of high-grade iron ore per year.
ABB will supply electrification and automation equipment for the concentrator plant and the excavation operations in the open pit mine that feeds it.
This is not the first ABB deal with Northern Resources as they had a previous order last year for one dual pinion (2x 5800 kW) low-speed mill drive system, which consisted of converter transformers, a frequency converter ACS6000 and synchronous motors.
Production should start in November.
