ABB’s Houston-based Safety Execution Center (SEC) gained TÜV approval as having established a Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) for the delivery and implementation of safety system projects in accordance to international industry standards.

The approval letter from TÜV Süd, based in Munich, Germany, said the baseline FSMS meets in all respects the requirements for the design and engineering of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) in accordance with the international safety standards IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 within the oil, gas and chemicals sector.

Now that approval of the FSMS has met the requirements of TÜV, it will end up used in the implementation of ongoing safety-related project and operational solutions within the SEC. Additional audits will allow full TÜV accredited certification in the future.

SECs are in every region of the world. Eighteen of ABB’s SECs have so far been certified by TÜV Rheinland and TÜV Sud.
