No one was hurt in an equipment fire at an ethanol plant in Gibson, IL, Saturday.
The fire broke out at One Earth Energy. The manager said a belt on a drive motor caught fire and the fire department ended up called because of all the smoke.
The building wasn’t occupied at the time, and the manager said the fire was out within half an hour.
The company produces fuel-grade ethanol, which is used as an octane enhancer in fuels, and as an oxygenated fuel additive for the purpose of reducing ozone and carbon monoxide emissions, as well as used as a non-petroleum-based gasoline substitute, according to a report on Bloomberg.
It also offers distillers grains, an animal feed supplement primarily for the dairy, beef, poultry, and swine industries. The company started up in 2005.
