A relief valve malfunctioned forcing a propane leak in Essex, CT, Thursday, officials said.
It turns out a skidsteer ruptured a 1000-gallon propane tank, officials said. The Guilford Fire Dept used specialized equipment to safely pull the skidsteer off of the propane tank just enough for them to cap the broken stem.
The tank auto froze just enough to slow the leak down so it could be capped and secured, fire officials said. There was approximately 400 gallons of LPG still in the tank which will be pumped by the owner’s Propane Company.
By Sunday, officials had cleaned up the spill. Guilford firefighters said they helped Essex, CT, crews clean up the spill.
No injuries from the incident have been reported.
