A 3-inch gas line broke in addition to a 4-inch oil pipeline Monday morning, Santa Barbara County, CA, Fire Department officials said. Officials shut down both lines.
The spill did not reach a nearby riverbed, said Capt. Dave Zaniboni with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The oil field is 60 miles east of Santa Maria, and is one of the oldest oil fields in the area with its discovery in 1948. Some consider the field to be near the end of its life.
E&B Natural Resources acquired the field in 2003 and has operated it since. E&B Natural Resources said that they’ve completed numerous facility repairs and upgrades since 2003.
The cause of the oil spill and the gas leak are under investigation.
