A woman is undergoing treatment for exposure to lead oxide and lead azide after a small explosion at a South Bay plant, authorities said.
Paramedics airlifted the woman to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA, where she underwent a second round of decontamination, following an initial one at the plant, before she was able to enter the emergency room, said Capt. Mitch Matlow of the San Jose Fire Department.
Employees at Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company in the city of Hollister reported the explosion at 9:31 a.m., according to a dispatcher.
She got to the hospital more than an hour after the exposure and listed in serious condition.
Hollister fire officials confirmed they responded to a detonation but did not say what caused it.
