A chemical leak at the Ed Love Water Treatment Plant in Tuscaloosa, AL, led authorities to close Jack Warner Parkway between McFarland Boulevard and Helen Keller Boulevard Friday morning.
Six liquid pounds of chlorine dioxide leaked at the water treatment plant, said Tuscaloosa city spokeswoman Deidre Stalnaker. They stopped the leak at the plant around 7 a.m.
She said a two-inch valve broke and they will repair it shortly.
The plant will shut down for a maximum of three hours for the repairs, but Stalnaker said there’s enough water in the reserve that residents shouldn’t notice a change in their water supply.
The plant tested local waterways and found all levels were normal, and there was no threat to the water supply.
