Three first responders suffered injuries Monday after coming across a chemical spill inside a Woonsocket, RI, building.
Fire crews responded at 7 p.m. to a reported fire at a mill building on Privilege Street. Upon arrival, they encountered chemicals on the second floor that looked like they were purposely spilled over, officials said.
“We did find a small fire that is under investigation,” Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Oakland added.
The three first responders exited the building after noticing irritation in their throats. They were transported to Landmark Medical Center for treatment while a HazMat team and other agencies were called to the scene.
Fire officials said the chemical appears to be a cleaning agent and there is no threat to the public.
