After a liquid chemical spill in Temple, TX, Tuesday morning, four people ended up rushed to the hospital, officials said.
Temple Fire & Rescue crews got the call to go to the Carpenter Company just before 6 a.m. regarding a chemical spill.
Crews found the liquid spilled was Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI), a chemical used in foam pouring. According to Thomas Pechal with Temple Fire & Rescue, there is no hazard to surrounding area.
Pechal said three employees ended up “decontaminated” by firefighters and then taken to Scott & White Hospital for assessment.
One person with Scott & White EMS also went to the hospital after complaining of difficulty breathing. A firefighter ended up treated at the scene after coming in contact with the liquid, but later returned to work.
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommends all the isomers of TDI end up regarded as potential occupational carcinogens and exposures be at the lowest feasible concentrations.
