There was a chlorine leak at the North Meridian Water Plant in Meridian, MS, Monday, officials said.
No injuries were reported in the 8:15 a.m. incident.
The Meridian Fire Department is responsible for responding to chemical leaks with the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency (LEMA), said Meridian Fire Marshall Jason Collier.
While protocols vary by chemical, Collier said firefighter suits protected firefighters sufficiently from chlorine leaks so firefighters can enter the building and manually shut off leaks.
Scott Spears, the director of LEMA, didn’t answer calls Monday for comment
