A pump that failed caused tanks to overflow and spill about 770 barrels, or 32,340 gallons, of oil Tuesday just north of Tioga, ND, but officials report the spill ended up contained on site.
Hess Bakken Investments II LLC reported the incident Tuesday at a tank battery in Mountrail County about seven miles north of Tioga.
The company said the spill ended up contained and recovered on the location, according to the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division.
A state inspector has been on site and will monitor the cleanup.
Oil and brine spills continue to be an issue throughout North Dakota. In just one case in October, after workers lost control of a well in northwestern North Dakota, oil and saltwater continued to spill across the area until workers were able to shut it down four days later, officials said.
