Garbage was the cause of a smoky fire Saturday afternoon at Miller Waste Systems at Rodick Road and 14th Avenue in Markham, Ontario, Canada.
“It was just garbage, no structural damage at all,” said Markham Fire and Emergency Services platoon chief Jeff LeFaive.
“It was very time-consuming,” he added and said they’re not sure how the fire started.
He said garbage at the plant just caught fire and caused a heavy buildup of smoke that required plenty of manpower to contain it and put it out on Saturday.
Nine fire trucks ended up called to the large plant just after 5 p.m. There were no injuries but firefighters had to deal with chemicals and heavy smoke.
