A hair care manufacturer is facing $233,000 in fines for 44 serious safety violations at its Zotos International plant in Geneva, NY, said officials at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The violations include unguarded moving machine parts, electrical hazards, a blocked exit door, unqualified employees working on live electrical parts, and failing to develop safety plans and inadequate training of employees.

OSHA said workers suffered overexposure to certain chemicals and there were inadequate preparations to prevent the release of a flammable liquid used in the production process.

A Zotos spokesman said the company fixed quite a few of the problems right away they are working with OSHA to resolve the others.
