A Carrollton man died as the result of injuries from an industrial incident Thursday at American Steel Foundry in Granite City, IL.

Roy L. Evans, 54, of Carrollton died after he ended up crushed by a stack of metal steel skids, officials said.

Granite City police, fire and EMS got the call to the foundry for the report that an employee of American Steel had been seriously injured and needed immediate medical attention.

Evans ended up transported to Gateway Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries and passed away, Granite City Police officials said.

Federal safety regulators said Evans ended up crushed by a stack of skids, which are 2,000-pound metal frames.

The department is investigating the incident and the Madison County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy Friday.

“The Granite City Police Department would like to extend our condolences to the family of Mr. Evans for their loss,” the release said.
