A 64-year-old Coldwater, MI, man was killed Friday morning in an industrial incident at the Real Alloy Coldwater South recycling facility in Coldwater, officials said.
Mark Douglas Weller was struck by a piece of heavy industrial equipment and pronounced dead at the scene, said Interim Director of Public Safety, Joe Scheid.
The Coldwater Fire Department, Life Care Ambulance, and the Coldwater Police Department were all dispatched at 10:45 a.m. Friday on a report of a man being struck by a loader.
The incident was being treated as an accident.
Questions concerning the incident were referred by the local Real Alloy office to a company spokesman in Cleveland. That official has been unavailable for comment.
Weller had worked as a shipping supervisor for Acorn in Quincy for about 25 years and then went to Real Alloy in Coldwater as a loader and tower operator for the last five years.
A spokesperson for the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed an investigation into the incident began on Friday. She added that typically this type of investigation may take several weeks or months. But she declined further comment while the investigation was open.
