A large plume of smoke coming from a Wixom, MI, business that sparked a HazMat response Monday was not a toxic substance, officials said.
The smoke came from the Korex Corporation just after 2 a.m. and it forced firefighters to shut down the roads around the building.
“Firefighters and technicians were able to obtain preliminary air quality reports and were able to verify that the smoke plume was not toxic in nature,” city officials said. “At approximately 8:30 a.m., Wixom firefighters and HazMat technicians were able to locate the source of the plume and determine, definitively, that there was no danger to the public.”
Korex packages a wide variety of consumer, industrial and institutional products.
