A transformer fire at a northern Illinois power plant forced one of two power-generating units to shut down.
Firefighters got the call to the Dynegy Power Station in Hennepin, IL, at 11 a.m. Tuesday as thick black smoke rose from the site along the Illinois River.
The fire occurred in an area of the plant where electricity from the generating unit transfers to the power grid for distribution, said Dynegy Inc. spokeswoman Katy Sullivan. She said no one suffered an injury in the incident.
The company is investigating the cause of the fire and whether there was any damage to the power plant.
Hennepin is about 115 miles southwest of Chicago.
