A fire at a bio-diesel plant in DeForest, WI, caused $1 million in damages Thursday.
Firefighters got the call at 9:15 a.m. at REG (Renewable Energy Group) Madison LLC, formerly known as Sanimax, on Bassett Street on the village’s North Side, officials said.
A mutual aid alarm brought fire units from numerous departments, including Waunakee, Maple Bluff, Dane and Sun Prairie.
Arriving firefighters found visible flames at the facility and began an evacuation of the immediate area, including some residences and businesses, DeForest police said.
All employees at the plant were accounted for, DeForest fire officials said. There were no injuries in the blaze.
The fire ended up contained in an hour, and the people that evacuated in the area were able to return to their homes and businesses.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
