A Cartersville, GA, man died Monday after a tire he was working on exploded at Monitor Manufacturing Co. in Cartersville.

Deon Eggleston, 43, died at the scene of the incident. Bartow County Deputy Coroner Brent Wilkey said Eggleston died after a tire he was working on exploded.

“He was working on a lawnmower tire,” Wilkey said, “and it exploded hitting him in the chest and under the chin.”

Wilkey said Eggleston was breathing and had a pulse when the Cartersville Fire Department arrived, but shortly after, went into cardiac arrest.

Monitor Manufacturing manufactures and markets tires and wheels for lawn and garden equipment.

Details surrounding the fatal accident remain under investigation. Officials are waiting on an autopsy report to determine the cause of death. 

Occupational Safety and Health Administration spokesperson Michael D’Aquino said the agency is investigating, but no other details can be provided at this time.
