There were no injuries at Gradall Industries Inc. during a fire Monday night that caused $100,000 damage to contents at the New Philadelphia, OH, manufacturing facility.
The New Philadelphia Fire Department arrived at the scene at 10:16 p.m. to respond to a call about smoke in the building.
A large amount of smoke was coming from the powder coating area, said Capt. Jim Sholtz.
Firefighters entered the building and found “cold” smoke, which Capt. Matt Tharp described as lazy smoke not being pushed by flames.
The origin of the fire was discovered in a dust collector machine inside the powder coating room. The fire ended up contained to that area because of the building’s sprinkler system.
Crews opened the dust collector and quickly extinguished the blaze. That area and surrounding equipment were a total loss. The $100,000 damage estimate does not include property, only contents.
Firefighters were on scene for about an hour and 45 minutes.
