Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) officials will meet in Surry, VA, next week for public comment on environmental issues the agency should consider in reviewing Virginia Electric and Power Company’s (Dominion Energy Virginia) application for an additional 20 years of operation for Surry Units 1 and 2.

The NRC will hold the meeting at the Surry Administrator’s Office at the Surry Government Center from 6-8 p.m.

Staff presentations will describe the environmental and safety review processes and the proposed review schedule. The presentations will be followed by a formal public comment session. An NRC open house, from 5-6 p.m., will provide members of the public the opportunity to speak informally with agency staff.

Commenters may also register in person at the venue by 5:45 p.m. Individual comments could be limited by the time available and the number of people expecting to speak. Individuals with special needs for attending or presenting information at the meetings also should contact Tran by Jan. 3.

Cyber Security

NRC staff will consider written comments on environmental issues until Jan. 22.

Dominion submitted the Surry subsequent license renewal application on Oct. 15. The subsequent license renewal process determines whether an operating reactor can extend its license for an additional 20 years.
