There are no overly adverse environmental impacts that would preclude the Waterford Nuclear power plant from earning an additional 20 years of operation, federal regulators said.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) released its final supplemental environmental impact statement for renewing the operating license of the Waterford facility in Louisiana
Waterford is a pressurized-water reactor located about 25 miles west of New Orleans.
Entergy Operations Inc. and Entergy Louisiana LLC submitted the renewal application on March 30, 2016.
The NRC’s review of the application consists of a technical safety review and an environmental review.
The final supplemental environmental impact statement is supplement 59 to NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, which is available on the NRC’s website. The Waterford license renewal application and general information about reactor license renewal are also available on the NRC website.
