Two nuclear plants in Oswego County, NY, are now receiving additional oversight from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) following too many unplanned shutdowns and power changes.
Unit One at Nine Mile will undergo inspection through a supplemental NRC team in November, because it had too many unplanned shutdowns during the past 7,000 operating hours. There were four during that time.
The FitzPatrick plant will also receive extra oversight for having 14 unplanned power changes during the same time period.
An additional inspection will happen in the coming months.
Despite the monitoring, the NRC said both plants continue to operate safely.
