A hydrochloric acid leak at a Geismar, LA-based chemical plant shut down operations overnight Thursday, according to authorities.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reported it happened at the Rubicon plant off LA 75 in Geismar.

Deputies said another plant in the area was under shelter-in-place orders during the leak.

Officials said the release was under control around 2:30 a.m. and everything was back to normal.
